"Copyright", "Doppelgänger", "Thing Right", "Will": Dictionary Entries. Ines Weizman.
Provenance in Architecture, edited by Uwe Fleckner and Mari Lending, transposes the concept of provenance from art into architecture, revealing new dimensions in the social, material and cultural lives of buildings and architectural artefacts and reframing questions of migration, movement and circulation. Conceived as a critical compendium, the book examines architectural provenance through 101 key concepts, from “Acquisition” to “Will”. Together, the entries propose new ways of writing architectural history by tracing how architecture moves, is destroyed, survives and is transformed, and by following the complex trajectories of architectural objects from their origins to their often uncertain destinations.
Ines Weizman’s contribution to the volume consists of four entries: “Copyright,” “Doppelgänger,” “Thing Right,” and “Will.” Across these terms, she examines questions of authorship and ownership, copying and doubling, the rights and agency attributed to things, and the transmission of architecture through inheritance and testament.
